Andy Dennis is a Staff Nurse in the Endoscopy Unit at Harrogate District Hospital. He also works with Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). MSF is a non-political,non-religious medical organisation working in around 60 countries. Caring for those suffering through conflict, epidemic and natural disaster. He has worked with MSF in Uganda (2005) South Sudan (2008 & 2013) and in the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone in 2014. In November – December 2014 he worked in MSF’s Kailahun Ebola management Centre in the most moving month of his life. Andy’s friend and colleague Dr Anna Simon and Andy have since documented this experience in a book called Ebola – behind the mask.
In 2011 Andy set out to raise £100,000 for MSF and will keep going until it is achieved. In May 2016 Tracey Hill (Andy’s girlfriend) and Andy set off on a 4000-mile fundraising cycle ride from San Francisco to New York. This remarkable journey took them 71 days to complete. They met some extraordinarily kind and generous people on the trip. They conquered mountains, deserts, winds and their own limits as they crossed the US. When Andy arrived in New York – after cycling across the States – he recorded the soundscape of bustling New York; this is the end result.
This short, 13 minute EP is – I have to admit – not the most polished of recordings – I have not edited these recordings – they play out in alphabetical order and were recorded on an iPhone. This means that there is a rawness to the product. However, as a testament to the super-human effort that Tracey & Andy put in I will put this album for sale on a donation basis up on this here label. I am not setting a price on this short album, but there is a chance to pay. All proceeds from the release of this album will go to MSF.
